I believe books are as important as they've always been.

  1. Rachel said...:

Yes, Kathy. How are they important? What's the impact?

  1. Anonymous said...:

Honestly I'm not sure that books have the same impact in society as they used to... you know, before the invention of video games, texting, and laptops. It doesn't really seem as society feels that feeding the brain and the imagination through reading are as important nowadays. I mean, why encourage one to use their imagination to "see" the world an author is creating for them when you can just as easily tell them, and show them, how it looks?

Sure, a lot of books are being published, and turned into movies but that doesn't mean people are actually reading them BEFORE they become movies, and that doesn't mean they'll read them AFTER they've seen the movie version. I've noticed that if there's a way to get the basics of the material in a book without actually having to pick it up, whether it be through watching its movie adaption or through word of mouth, than that will be the route most taken. Society is really all about shortcuts these days, I think, more so when it comes to books.

Well, at least, that's my opinion. Heck, even I have fallen far from the whole book reading world. Where I used to read 15-20 books every 2 weeks I now struggle to read 1 book a month... it's pretty depressing, but there's so many distractions now days and all very addictive. But as I mentioned. Why use your imagination to "see" what you're reading when you can just as easily pop in a movie and see without trying?

i don't think books have an impact as large as before but they still can give confort, help to make people understand... sadly it also mean that some books can create riot, big strike and such

personaly i love that book can make us understand history and the risk of a repeat of the worse time by trasnposing the story in a paranoarl world with vampires and shifters for example..the discriminations, the hunting etc can be a illustration of world war but since it's in paranormal some accept to think about it when with real history they stick to their idea even false

Book could have a bigger impact if they were more accessible ( in my country a mass market paperback is 10 euro /13 dollars and that's expensive)

  1. I think it's important to have a good vocabulary and it's healthy as a child to grow into reading. It helps with school and comprehension and is a great stress relief. People have different likes but as long as you are reading something and keeping your brain active, you are growing and learning

  1. I think books are absolutely essential to society and its structure.

Not only for the kids or people who like reading fiction--although fiction books are necessary to help develop the imagine and let people experience things aside from their own little bubble of a world--but all the nonfiction, the political books, the textbooks, the how-to books, the philosophy books. EVERYTHING. Everything we think, say, do, have an opinion on, it all originated with a book somehow, somewhere. If we didn't have books...how in the world would we remember history? How would we know the experiences of people thousands of miles away from us? How do you raise awareness? Books are...books are the lifeblood of our entire society.

  1. I believe books are EXTREMELY important. Kids need to read more and play video games, computer stuff, etc. less.

  1. Christine said...:

I think books are significant. People will never get tired of reading, and it provides another world for people like me to escape in. Additionally, books provide sources of information.

  1. Rachel said...:

Books are art. They are a way to spread culture and tell fictional stories that to seem may be more realistic. Without books, we'd be nothing. However, not everyone sees it that way--"Reading is stupid," they say--and that's unfortunate. Without books, we might as well be dead.

  1. I think books are more accessible today...with e-books being easy to get (especially if you're international). I'm not sure if the impact's gained or waned though. Obviously people are more literate now...but do kids read as much?

LOVE THIS BLOG. Just sayin'. :)

  1. Sofia T. said...:

Well, let me just say that not many kids now read and by kids I mean people my age (17) and that's just sad...

  1. Lydia said...:

I think books are still the best place to find knowledge and to find stories worth reading. The internet is a fantastic place but anyone ... literally ANYONE can publish themselves on the internet. To get a book published, you have to be smart and creative. And if it's nonfiction, you have to be knowledgeable in your field. Because of that, I think books are still very reliable and still influence the way people think. I guess you could say that books influence the "thinkers" which means that they are still very valuable and very much alive.

  1. They help a lot with learning new vocabulary and learning about new people and places help people to be more knowledgeable and less ignorant.

  1. Anonymous said...:

As an Australian that grew up without grammar being a part of the curriculum in primary school, I always see people that struggle to write properly. Books have played a fundamental part in helping me write correctly. Never underestimate the power of learning, even through picture books.

  1. Belle said...:

I think that books impact society in a positive way by bringing people together and teaching people of all ages. it is more common to find a kid who loves reading today than it was not so long ago. Books can also bring up issues and help make society adress them.

  1. Jessa said...:

Books teach people. They show you ways to live and ways NOT to live. They bring comfort when you need it and are fantastic even when you don't need comfort. They open worlds you have never seen before and probably wouldn't ever see and they show you the good and bad of those.

    Books are the best teachers.

  1. Julie S said...:

Books have a huge impact as they allow us to learn and "go" places without physically going, and give us a better understanding of people and ideas.

  1. Unknown said...:

Books have a huge impact on people to discover new worlds, amazing characters and increase their vocabulary. Books help you escape everyday life and take you wherever you want. thanks!

  1. Books allow people to explore their inner fantasies and live lives through books that they could not experience otherwise.

  1. Books have a lot of competition for people's interest now with all the other media sources readily available. But unlike TV, Movies or Video Games, I think books offer a chance for a person to assimilate information in a way that allows them to think, digest, and absorb what they're getting instead of just being bombarded. The trouble is getting people to enjoy reading or take the time to read. ;D

    Fabulous giveaway opportunity.

  1. aLilLacey said...:

books take us to another time and place and help keep our imaginations and creativity alive!

  1. Brynna said...:

Hmm... tough question. I definitely think they're important, but in what way. Well, the biggest overall impact on society that I see them having (and this is kinda sad) is in the form of movie adaptations.

Reading seems to be really polarizing. It just seems to me like people either read a ton, or not very much, but most people go out and see a movie at least once or twice a year, and some of the biggest movies lately have been book adaptations.

But, I guess it can be good too, because some of the biggest book-to-movies that have come out recently (Harry Potter, Hunger Games, etc.) really make you think and have a lot of impact when it comes to values and reasons that you do it. I'm definitely waiting for Ender's Game, as that book definitely had an impact on how I thought about the reasons people do things.

  1. I think books don't carry as much meaning to the general population as they used to. But then again, what with e readers, it has become much easier to have access to brilliant books, and those who read still take away ideas and thoughts and even entire worlds away with them. They are still left pondering for days after they finish a good book. Society, in general, views these people as intellectuals. Books are an indicator of intelligence and wisdom still. They enable people to gain a much deeper understanding of the world in general, thus resulting in the betterment of society.

  1. Books effect society because without them where would creativity be. Honestly, reading has opened up the world where things, that don't exist can and things that might not be possible are done. Books have impacted today's society because it is a safe, educational way to expand your imagination. It also serves as an escape from reality when things are rough. (I could go on for a while ;) I'm sure we all can.!)

  1. erin said...:

thanks for the awesome giveaway! Eh... I think books are not any more or any less important to society than before. I think what's changing is the delivery/method of reading. So many people have e-readers and now so many books are "interactive" w/ audio and "special content".

  1. Unknown said...:

I think that books are as significant as they were back then. Reading books increases your reading and writing abilities, widens your vocabulary, etc. It gives you comfort and fun.

  1. Book have a big impact in life. They shape the minds of the young, teach us to follow our dreams, show us how to do things, give our imaginations wings to go and do and be anything. Books help those stuck in situations like being in a hospital bed to escape their confines. Books are so very important to everyone in all walks of life. I personally could not survive without books in my life. Thanks for the amazing giveaway!

  1. Kiku said...:

Books are an important part of life. It's sad that many have not discovered that yet. Books are the easiest way to open gates to other realms, places where we can be exactly as we want without people telling us what we should be and what we should do. And they're also the greatest source of knowledge. That is why books are important, always have been and always will be (:

  1. Unknown said...:

Well, books help us get our mind off things, they make us forget our problems, they help improve our vocabulary and they make us feel that we're not alone. Thanks for the giveaway! :D

Books provide criticism on modern society, which is especially prevalent with the rising popularity of dystopian novels, which show the devastation of war and abusing our environment.

  1. Nadia said...:

This giveaway is unbelievably amazing. Thank you!

  1. Nadia said...:

Also, books are really important nowadays because we all live in such a nasty world, that books allow us to jut fly away, for 5 minutes or 5 hours, and that is so good :)

  1. Unknown said...:

Books give society a chance to get away from all of the technology today I believe. Yes, books are great to get on a tablet or other gadget, but books are still wonderful when you "turn those pages". I think it's a wonderful way for children to learn how to do it the old way and connect with their parents who probably grew up with "turning the pages".

  1. Cassi said...:

I think that books impact the way people think and act. They allow you to see into minds other than your own and maybe better understand other people's choices and reasoning better.

  1. Anonymous said...:

    they give people inspiration

  1. Mikki D said...:

I think that books gives the society an escape from the real world. No matter what we read, that time we spend reading brings us something new that we can learn from.

For me, reading books saved me from a dark place that I was stuck in. I'll be forever grateful to the authors and the books that I read at that time, to get me out of it :)

  1. Cody Doll said...:

Books have a huge impact. They teach whoever reads. It just depends on what you read.

  1. Allysa said...:

Books have the capability to leave a huge impact if people would read them. They each have a story to tell, a lesson to teach, someone to inspire, but if no one reads them that message doesn't get across. It's sad how many teens don't read and experience books. But then there's the blogging community, who understands what it's like to read so many books, to learn so many new things, and experience a lot.

  1. Kelly said...:

I love books and my family reads. I like to keep my children innocent as long as possible but books are changing.

  1. Malcolm X has has an writing piece that is called "Literacy Behind Bars" in his Auto-Biography where he talks about the impact that reading had on his life. He describes it as opening him up to a whole new world where he was education about all the options that he had. I feel the exact same way. I feel like Books open me up to new fictional worlds, but allows me to view the real world in other ways as well. I believe books are a form of escape, a form of happiness, and a form of education. I honestly don't know where I would be, and even if I would be on the right track in my life, if I didn't have my love for books!

  1. SandyG265 said...:

I think good books can teach lessons and open up topics for discussion. Of course books also provide entertainment.

  1. I think it can have a huge impact on how you think of as the world. Especially for kids.

  1. Books impact us daily! They encourage, thought discussion, argument, dreams, & ideals. One can travel the world without ever leaving home! An open exchange of ideas can lead to innovation, healing, reform... the sky's the limit. As a reader you are never limited or confined!
    Thanks for an awesome giveaway!

I think books help us as an escape from our daily lives and routines, they broaden our minds and help us see the world differently. All different genres serve this purpose, I tend to read fiction so I like to escape into a different world. :)

  1. I think that books can have a huge impact on children and allow entertainment and teach lessons.

  1. Books are more influential than most people believe them to be. People are what they read.

  1. Connie said...:

I think books open our mind to new possbilities and ideas. :)

  1. Christine said...:

I think books have a much greater impact on society than most people think they do. First of all, for people like us who are heavily invested in the book community and read a ton, books have obvious importance. But even for the people out there who never pick up a book, books are still influencing what TV shows they watch (take Game of Thrones, The Vampire Diaries, etc.) or movies they see (The Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playlist). Books still carry tremendous weight, even if just through their influence on other parts of society.

  1. Jessica said...:

I believe that books are impacting the movie/tv industry right now. Before you would see a movie made from a book maybe once a year, but now almost everything has been based off of a book or graphic novel. There's tv shows about fairy tales, Sherlock Homes and Ichabob Crane. Super Hero movies to boot and not to mention all the movies that are based off of books. Right now books are a great influence to society.

  1. Diana said...:

Books influence people in the way they think.. Much like movies, some books inspire people, make them realize things they never understood before and sometimes, books touch their hearts so much that they look at how they live and realize that they're doing something wrong. I think books make people reflect and hence, make them better part of the society.

Thank you for the giveaway! :)

  1. I think that books have such a big impact in the worl today. We share what we read with our friends and online and it is part of today's culture. There is a whole book universe out there and it's exciting to be a part of it!

  1. I think books had a big impact on society, people learn from books. some time books teach us new things

  1. Books help people to connect and increase vocabulary.

  1. book is one of recreation...it helps people to get informations or maybe just for relax...

  1. sshah605 said...:

Generally books are important because they provide us with lots of information but with creation of internet they have become a lot less important. And books do have a very big impact on society. They change views and opinions of a person.

  1. Books help us imagine a world beyond our own. They foster creativity and imagination!

  1. Amy said...:

While I think the impact is hard to measure more globally, individually I think books so enrich lives. My daughter has discovered the joy of reading and it is wonderful to share and discuss books with her. It has also lead her to write. I think the personal impact books can have is amazing.

  1. Mary said...:

Books are an important part of society and I try to teach my students each year about the importance of reading and being lifelong readers.

  1. Books are very important because knowledge is important.

  1. Steph said...:

Books have a great impact because they broaden the readers horizons. They allow us to travel to different countries, different time periods, and even enjoy places and people that aren't possible in real life. They can also teach valuable lessons like self acceptance, patience, love, the value of friendship, etc. Thanks for this awesome giveaway!

  1. Young people are so scared of them even if they don't know how amazing is one book.

  1. Katia said...:

Books are really accessible. Although the format we recieve the information through is changing, more people are reading through the convenience of e-readers, etc. Independent bookstores, at least in my area, are still powerful, but in many other cities, they're becoming extinct. However, although I do prefer local, the bookseller doesn't really matter. What matters is the story. And in that way, especially with self-publishing, books are as accessible as ever, if not more so. The question is whether or not people want to read them.

  1. Meghan said...:

Of course. That is how people express new ideas to other and can even cause a revolution if the ideas are potent enough!
    Thanks for the giveaways!

  1. Pyper541 said...:

I'm not sure what impact books have on society. I know personally I read to escape and love romance and all its sub genres. I think self help books can be found useful for some. I love the cons that bring like minded people together and blogs that help to connect authors and readers. Not sure if that really answers the question but just some of my thoughts.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  1. Fi-chan said...:

The question feels like an essay question for an assignment -_- anyway, we can thank books for the huge fandoms (Twilight, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings, etc) and also fan wars. I think that's a pretty big impact already.

  1. Anonymous said...:

When I was little, almost everyone I knew used to read books. It was an essential part of their lives, but nowadays, there are lot of "cooler" things to do. People nowadays would rather tweet, spend time on FB or play Xbox than read a book. Reading a good book can help you understand yourself and others better. Like music, books (or just words in general) can help communicate a feeling or emotion better than any movie could. It is much more personal, I guess.

  1. Dovile said...:

I think books nowadays are mostly entertainment, like movies or TV.

  1. Unknown said...:

They have such a great impact. Not only does it get kids away from the mindless drone of the tv but it gets their imagination involved and in a society where kids don't use their imagination half as much as they used to that is huge.

  1. Unknown said...:

Books are always have huge impact. Like nowadays so many movies that based on books and usually it became a success movie.

  1. For me, personally, books have always had a huge impact. They're an escape, when I just don't feel like dealing with the world, lol.

But in general, they push people to really think outside the box. It's different, going to a movie, and SEEING what the character looks like, SEEING what the world in the book looks like. It's an entirely different thing to imagine it. Books force people to be more creative.

  1. Anonymous said...:

I think the impact of books in society is actually higher than it's ever been. Worldwide literacy is at an all time high. Books in the public domain that have long been out of print and would otherwise be lost and forgotten are being read by people all over the world thanks to the internet. People who couldn't otherwise be able to afford books or who simply wouldn't have easy access to them are now able to read them. And they do.

While nowadays storytelling comes in many forms (videogames and movies and even twitterfeeds), books are still being read and enjoyed. Books still make people think. And because of technology, they touch the lives of many more people, scattered around the globe, some in places without libraries or bookstores.

  1. Books still have a tremendous impact. They are a wonderful tool for interacting with children. Sharing, talking and listening through stories and pictures. I love reading for pleasure. I think many younger people would rather watch films or TV, or take pleasure from videogames. I probably use books less for information now as the internet is so accessible.

  1. Unknown said...:

Books have impacted the way people view themselves and other I think. Think about it. Why does one read a book? To either learn something or to escape int different worlds and lives. I would not have it any other way but I think books have made us raise our expectations of things such as love. "I wish i had this romance" That kind of thing. Some women..even guys I guess too, LOL can look at the opposite sex and think...I should be cool like Daemon from the Lux series...or how would Katnis handle this? Some books are used for propaganda and we all know how that can impact society.I have nothing to back this up but I also think that books impact our creativeness, ya know? I know when I get to reaing I feel like I can be creative for at least a little bit, LOL.

Thanks so much for the giveaway! I so hope I win there are so many of these books I want, LOL.

I do believe books have a great impact on society. Could they have a bigger impact? Could more people be reading? The truth is, yes. Not just kids, teens and young adults. I truly believe that if people read more we'd live in a better world. But that doesn't change the fact that books affect people's lives every day. Books are like friends, only they're never going to leave. A book can give you escape, support, understanding, knowledge, advice, almost anything! I've known people on the edge that have been able to survive and manage to do better than just surviving because of books (I'm an example). Books unite people all around the world. If it weren't for books I wouldn't be here, on your blog, answering this question! Books open doors that go beyond the reading itself. So, yes, I believe that books have a bigger impact on society than most realize.

  1. Unknown said...:

I think that having some literature in your life is very important. There are some things that you wouldn't know if you don't read a lot and you miss out on those things. I personally love to read to escape from reality and explore new ones.

  1. Shelley said...:

The impact of books on a person is much more significant than a books impact on society. However, in saying this, since an individual lives in a society, the impacts on said individual may reflect upon the society in which they live in, especially if many persons are impacted in the same way. The impacts are clear – we feel a need to connect with people – be it a fictional character or a real life person. When there are times a real person cannot ‘cut it’, there is always an option of becoming someone else in another world and connecting there, experiencing the lives of others, discovering supernatural powers and simply finding friends.

When reading, it is in our nature as humans to connect with others. We feel sympathy. We feel joy. We feel hope for the characters and we are temporarily lost in another world by our own free will. Part of being human is simply responding to beautifully constructed art – be it words, paintings or music. That is what gives books an enduring appeal and what will allow it to strive forward, even if technology advances to the point paperbacks are rare and found in antique shops. Books impact on a person, and by extension, the society in which they live in no matter what time period.

  1. I think books serve as a good form of escapism for a lot of people. Its certainly true for me. I read because I want to get away from reality for a little while and get into a world thats different. As George R. R. Martin said:

"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies... The man who never reads lives only one."

Who doesn't love books!

I think that books can have a huge impact on those who choose to appreciate them. They spur the imagination of the reader by making you imagine the setting and the characters that the author has created. Also, especially at a young age, books can be used to teach life lessons and important values that will be used throughout life.

I believe that books allow us to escape our own lives and be someone else. Also books can make us laugh, cry, or even get so angry we throw the book across the room because we have become so attached to characters and we really feel like we're right there with them and they're our friends.

  1. I believe that books have a great impact. They help imaginations grow and a great way to relax and forget your worries.

Obviously, books have large impact in our society. But, not so much anymore nowadays. For example here, in my country, Indonesia, where I think the passion to read is long gone. They prefer to watch movies, play games, and many other activities that they think is way more exciting than reading.

But on the other hand, for those who love to read, books are such a huge part of their lives. They can enter a whole new world and giving them joy, find many information, and the right kind of book can teach you many things that I believe we can use in our life.

Some people aren't able to travel outside of their immediate communities and are stuck in one place for the majority of their life. Therefore, with books, they are given the chance to travel without having to move from their couch. In short, books help people live a multitude of lives without even leaving their housse.

I agree with Jessica Russell, books have helped me learn more vocabulary words than I would've learned on my own. Reading can open up a lot of doors that you may not necessarily notice otherwise.

  1. Ren said...:

I don't know about the impact, I just see book have influence to people, but the impact is just a little. If it's about me, book make a big impact for me. From book, I make new friend (or enemy, lol), an unlimited imagination, a friend that ready to make me smile when I'm on bad mood or cry, an escapism when I think no one side with me. I think that what book's impact for me. For more people, I see so many books made into movie. I'm not happy with this, because seems like Hollywood try to commercialized all that book. But if that make people will take a glance to the book and many new reader will appear, then I'm okay with that. I can said that one of the book impact to society.

  1. It makes us open up our minds to new and unimagined possibilities. Think of flying vehicles. Or vehicles for that matter. I never knew about dytopian worlds until I read about them in books.

I don't think books have as big an impact on society as they used to, simply because not as many people read. There's too much new technology out there with the same information. If a movie is coming out from a book that I want to see, I make sure to read the book first - it gives you so much more background, so you may get the gist from the movie, but not the whole story. You will learn something from every book you read that will enhance your life, be it spelling, grammar, history, far-away places, other cultures, etc., or just to escape for awhile. The possibilities are endless!

Books definitely don't impact society as much as it did before due to all the technological advancement, but people still read, just not as often as they did before. Reading is a great way to expand your horizons. It allows you to use your imagination, yet educates you in vocabulary and literary elements. Reading books can be fun, as long as you pick the right book. More people should realize this and trade some time from sitting in front of the TV/computer to reading!

  1. I don't really know the real impact, since I read books for fun. But for bookworms like me, novel is one of the best invention ever :)

  1. i think that books have a huge inpact it gets everyone away from the electronic ones and helps open minds up for anyone who is reading

  1. I am really sad that in today's society, books are becoming less and less important. Technology is taking over and less children are understanding the true pleasure of owning a book, reading it from cover to cover in bed or under a tree. It is now all kindles and texting and nothing gets my blood up more than text type. I hate it!!

Unfortunately, books don't have the same impact that they once did. With tv and movies of books coming out, many people feel that if they watch it they have no need to read. I firmly believe that reading is extremely important and is something that everyone should do on a regular basis. Even reading comic books or magazine articles is better than reading nothing at all.

I think that the impact of books now is completely different from say 50 years ago. Books were something people read in order to learn and prosper. However, now they are an escape for anyone who reads. The impact that books have in society is wonderfully amazing now. People can bond and be brought together by books. Suddenly we have "fandoms" that make people feel as though they aren't alone. Books are no longer just for learning; books impact on society is beautiful. People can fond a sense of security on them and society believes that books are good.

In my opinion, with the advent of ebooks, ereaders, tablets, and the free downloadable readers for computers, laptops and Smart Phones, books have assumed a much greater following than they did "once upon a time". The "movie" you see in your head while you read is always much better than the movie about that book as Hollywood sees it. This stretches the imagination of all readers, including the kids who will grow up to use their enhanced imagination to invent and/or improve all sorts of things to make life easier (or more fun) in the future.

  1. I believe that children who read are smarter than those who do not.

I feel books CAN have a great influence on individuals. Too bad that so many writers fail to see the positive impact they can have. Few writers worry about their literary skills which can impact negative attitudes, improper grammar, and unhealthy outlook.

Books are a great part of society. Its sad to see alot of teenager never touch a book besides a txt book. In my opinion books promote independent thinking.

  1. Books are one of the few things that haven't changed throughout the history of humanity. Yes the topics have changed, as have the tones, etc, but I think it's a very lovely thing to know that people were reading hundreds, thousands of years ago, and it still continues to this day. Regardless of what you read, it is a huge part of our culture, and is one of the few things to have survived so long.

  1. Books can educate, fascinate, make you laugh, cry, hope and dream. They are also a safe refuge,a getaway from the routine. :)

  1. Books impact on society... Wow, tough question. Let's see...

You could choose to focus on the whole society aspect: what is the impact on books on the society as a whole. I think that that depends. We saw a huge change in youngsters when the Twilight books hit the shelves; a whole lot of people, especially young teenage girls started reading, getting interested in books, just because of a single book. Then there were the whole Harry Potter phase that never really ended, that has made people around the world go into complete ave and has given us a theme park, college courses and a sport.

But honestly, I think I would like to answer the question more of how books have an impact on an individual, instead of the human body as a whole. And for that question,I think it depends on the social group.
We have groups who are completely ignorant towards book, who are not in any way influenced by wonderful words and who honestly could not care if there is a new best-seller. I have met people who would even just read an online analysis of the book they had been assigned in class.

Then we have groups who would like to read. Who sometimes reads a book or two and who watch movies based on books. These people might be emotionally influenced by the books that they choose to read - because they do not read very often, they are often very selective about which books they will read. Personally I know two people like this and every time they do choose to read a book, it is a book that will have an impact on them. It will be a book where they will wonder and think about it for a long time. For them, I don't think reading is an escape, but it's a paradise they can walk into for a little while and maybe come back out a little different.

And then there are the avid readers. The people who will devour books like they're oxygen, the people who do not just read for the pleasure but reads because it is a passion. People like me who can cry and laugh and completely immense themselves in a book and just leave our world to travel into a very different one. For them, books have a huge impact - it's a way of understanding different life situations and it's a way of falling in love our and our. I remember a quote saying that a reader lives a thousand lives and for these people, books are not necessarily an escape, it's just a different life and a wonderful adventure that they can go on. These people can go through hearthbreaks every other day, they can die with their main character and they can be reborn through a new tale.

I do realise that there are way more groups that just these three, and you really can't put people into groups like this, but I have no idea how else to explain how groups affect us socially. Personally I know that books affect me very much. To me a book is a different life and when I read I forget everything around me. But I also appreciate that there are people out there who might love books just as much as I do but do just not read as much, and there might be people who do not care. For them, books have a completely different impact - they might be a bore or they might be a carefully chosen journey. They might be an assignment or a recommendation or they might be the most wonderful thing.

Sorry for the long answer. DTLR: Books have different impacts depending on who reads them. There are a number of groups but I've just decided to list everybody into three groups because I do not want to write a five-page essay on books impact on people's lives. Even though I probably almost did.

  1. I think that more people are actually reading these days than used to, what with the introduction of several ways to read on the go, such as eReaders and tablets and phones that will read eBooks.

I don't think books are dying out, as some say, but instead are adapting to needs of the times. People want electronic books now, things to read on the go, instead of paper. So, more of those are created. People who defend paper copies so much fail to realize that it reads the same, whichever way you read it.

More people read now, because of all this. More children and women, especially.
